My suggestion is to add in a shout box and also a Server Status box displaying if there server is online and how many players are on.

We already have a chat box located at the bottom of the forums on the home page. I've tried moving it to the top but it's too large and makes the forums look strange.

I do have a simple script laying around that will allow you to see how many players are online. I will post again when that is up.
