The Rules are as follows (and are subject to change.):

Tides of the Maelstrom Rules
Ver. 2.0 as of 1/8/2013

The Rules are as follows (and are subject to change.):

By creating an account, you agree to abide by our rules and regulations. - Failure to comply with any and all rules will result in either temporary or permanent ban. You have been warned.

Keep in mind that above all else, a GM's word is final. As sometimes compromises have to be made in order to avoid any unnecessary drama. However, if a GM has appeared to have abused his/her place as a moderator, please private message Rakos with sufficient evidence of the abuse. Ergo a screen-shot. Disciplinary action will be administered at the discretion of Rakos. - It is likely that no response regarding the progress or end result of a situation such as this will be issued to the petitioning party.

Rule #1: Respect

This quintessential rule means all that it implies. You are required to be respectful at all times. We are all here to enjoy the experience of quality Roleplaying, and being rude or disrespectful ruins the experience for everyone. If you simply cannot be respectful you will be removed from the server, permanently. If there is someone you just cannot stand, the Ignore filter is there for a reason.

Please respect GM requests and decisions as it is usually in the interest of the server. Disrespecting GM's is disrespecting the heart of the server, don't do it. Please do not argue with a GM about bans, kicks or suspensions.

Please refrain from debating all personal subjects such as religion or politics in public out of character (OOC) channels or forums as they breed a type of drama not welcomed on the server. If you wish to debate these subjects, please do so in party or whispers or any other private channel.

Rule #2: Tolerance & Language

Please keep the OOC chatter within reason guys, we will allow swearing and such but when it's done to directly offend someone or something to that degree then you will receive a warning and may result in a temporary or permanent ban.

Rule #3: Maturity

All members are expected to have the ability to deal with issues in a rational, reasonable, adult manner. Don't be an idiot, it's that simple guys.

Rule #4: Role-Playing

All players on the server are expected to be at least familiar with Warcraft lore. Keep in mind you are not expected to know everything. A working familiarity with the general timelines will suffice. That is why sites like WoWPedia exist. If you don't know something, look it up, no big deal.

All players are expected to have a character concept that makes sense within the context of Azerothian/Draenorian history. Characters are expected to be in character (IC) a majority of the time. Public IC channels such as /say, /yell or /emote should be In-Character or "IC" 90-100% of the time (with the exception of OOC areas.) Please keep role-playing corrections in the “general” channel, which is usually ( /1 ). However, this does not mean OOC chatter is not accepted. You may speak in /Chat (/join Chat) or OOC areas as much as you like. (As well as /Adult)

Whether or not Guild channels are in character (IC) or out of character (OOC) are to the discretion of the Guild leader.

- Chats

/1 or General - Used for RP Corrections or anything that may be relevant to an RP situation. You may also use LFG for this.
/LFG - Or in our terms LFRP. Use this channel to either advertise an event or to ask if there is any active RP.
/Guilds - A channel for people to advertise their guilds. Please do not advertise them in any other place but the /Guilds channel.
/Chat - All OOC chatter goes here. Please try to keep this chat PG-13.
/Adult - An "R-X" Rated version of /Chat. 18+ Material. Pretty much everything goes here so user/viewer discretion is advised.

- Godmoding

Absolutely no Godmoding, metagaming or powergaming of any sort. No exceptions.

- Role-Playing Types

All types of Role-Play are allowed so long as every participant is comfortable with it. As the server consists of a variety of ages, some RP's are not always appropriate.

- Keyboard Skills

All players are expected to have a high degree of competence when typing. As this is a text-based Role-Playing server, we have relatively high standards when it comes to punctuation, capitalization and spelling. We do not expect perfection as nobody is perfect, but everyone has room to improve. Please refrain from using shortened expressions such as “u” for “you” and “thx” for “thanks.” You are expected to use proper spelling and grammar in the official OOC channels (/Chat and /LookingForGroup)

Lenience will be issued to those who's native language is not English. If this is the case, please be sure to mention this beforehand.

Rule #5: Know When to Quit

We know you want to make a big tough character. That is fine, but please keep in mind that other people may see IC hostilities as OOC drama. We do not want to go out of our way to make people uncomfortable. If your character is the mean or evil type, it can only help to let others around you know OOCly.

Please do not be belligerent in IC interactions so much that it irritates someone OOCly. We can refer you to our number one rule at this point. However, IC actions do have IC consequences.

Rule #6: Plagiarism

If you decide to copy quoted text, please cite your source(s). It is also polite to ask the author for their permission before posting their work even if you cite the source.

Policies

Tides of the Maelstrom Policies

(Our policies are as follows and are subject to change.)

#1: Character Naming Policy

Any and all character names must not contain any sort of inappropriate material. You can refer to our rules if that is unclear. This means absolutely zero profanity. We will also not accept any character names with "omg, lol, rofl" or any other silly acronyms within the name unless its within reason. If your character's name just so happens to contain these particular letters in this particular order. I.e. something like "Gromg" then you are likely fine, but anything alike "Roflshaman or Omgpally" will receive abforced rename. Names resembling words are also not allowed. Your character name must be a NAME. You will have this one chance to rename your character to something that fits our policy. If you do not, the character will be deleted. If the problem persists further you will receive a suspension and later, a ban.

#2: Character Profile Policy

All character profiles must follow the template provided (unless specified otherwise by the staff). Anything submitted on the contrary will be rejected until corrected. Character history must be at least three to five paragraphs long. All character profiles must make sense within the World of Warcraft. This means every detail must check out with World of Warcraft/Tides of the Maelstrom lore. We also do not allow relations to any lore figure (unless specified otherwise by an Administrator). This includes friendships, intimate relationships, etc... All Tides of the Maelstrom staff members reserve the right to reject any character profile that does not meet our standards.

#3: Character Profession Policy (IC)

Any character is free to claim a profession as their, well, profession... However, these do not include any prestige related professions or classes (unless specified otherwise by the staff). Adult themed professions are allowed within reason (Courtesan, etc...). Again, any and all parties involved must be consenting. We can refer you to our number one rule as well as the "Role-Playing Types" section.

#4: Character Warnings, Death and Combat Policy!

Any character who wishes mortal harm unto another must first issue an OOC warning*. It is preferred that this be done in /General or /LookingForGroup so other players can vouch for whether or not an OOC warning was issued should there be any problems. Any and all character fights/deaths must take place outside of any city or establishment or within an arena that permits death. Players may combat either by utilizing the in-game feature "dueling" or by "roll" or "trust".

*An OOC warning can be issued by simply saying something along the lines of "[Your Character Name] has been hired to assassinate [Victim Character Name]. [Your Character Name] will likely attack on sight. Character warning issued." in /General or /LookingForGroup, though there is no template or format required to do such. So long as you get the point across. Remember! Character Warnings go both ways! Meaning that if you issue a warning, you are also putting your character at risk of death! - All Character Deaths are final, permanent deaths unless determined otherwise. Though the character may still be played OOC.
